Song information
Written and initially recorded around 2015. Early Genesis flavor was striven for with the music I came up with. Lyrically, I had read a short story by John Barth called "Lost In The Funhouse," and wanted to come up with a similar storyline. "Rampart Ridge" was originally an acoustic piece on it's own, but I thought it might sound cool to link them together. It was my attempt to rewrite Led Zeppelin's "Black Mountain Side." It was in the key of D, but the guitar was capoed to F, as it was originally part of a collection of tunes, where a lot of songs were in the key of D so........ I wouldn't say the sound is perfect, but it's a work in progress at the least.

Going through your material… you are a real writer… I tip my hat, because that is highly prized and you are very good… I got my foot into doors with much better musicians than myself because they wanted writers… and being with better musicians raises our level… I love the surprising changes (yes very Genesis like) I just mixed a cover of Entangled… which this reminds me of… that acoustic section around 3:20 would be very Zep if it was also a mandolin instead of another acoustic guitar… it’s very Zep anyway… cool changes… ambitious and fits the subject mater… The last section even reminds me of Mike Rutherford

I like early Genesis too. Especially "Selling England By The Pound." A little of that vibe here. Interesting and well crafted vocals Mark. Cool guitar work in the second part! Bravo 👌👍👏😋
