Lyrics
Midnight Child
(C) August 8, 2011 Stan Loh & Tim Wenzel

Midnight children, vagabond smells,
Flamethrower fixes,
Living like hell,
Selling souls for fives and sixes,
With no spare change to appease the fixer,

I’m a midnight child,
Hanging to dry like a broken bell,
I’m a midnight child,
Wasting away like a crumbling well.

Seeking comfort, finding shame,
Another day ends,
But not the pain,
Our souls lie shattered, at the bottom of a well,
No food in our bellies, our bodies we’ll sell.

Cold rugged pavements, open enslavement,
Refuge in a sleeping bag,
Hell if we’re lucky, maybe old Sally will fill our packs,

When I want some fine work I can always rely on some of my old pals. Kenneth is one of them! Such fine work to elevate a tune! This was an oldie I wrote several years ago, and when I had very little skills producing the backing. Way back then Elaine lent me her voice on my horrible backing. She made me so happy with her gorgeous voice. Unfortunately this time I could only use mine...Neverhteless, thanks so much Kenneth for your very well done backing and arrangement. Love the sax!

The jazzy pop ballad treatment is indeed a very good choice for this beautiful, and sad, and important story. Really nice. And Stan, dont sell yourself short : your voice carries all the emotions the song requires.

@Dyl thank you for the kind feedback. And you are right. Stan sings far better than he thinks. In fact his range is so wide that other singers must throw in the towel because they cannot sing his strong wide ranging beautiful melodies. And like the real pros we help the last little bit with Melodyne ;-)

I heard Stan's original / earlier version of this song and now Kenneth's with his masterly touch and participation has given it a real boost. Great job both of you.

@Kaverley Thanks for the kind words Ken. I always to try my best to catch the mood of Stans songs and what I really appreciate is that he gives me free hands to do whatever I want. Still have not turned one of his songs into a punk song. - Ha!
