Song information
I recorded this in 2018. Immediately after mixing and mastering the tune, I accidentally DELETED the file! (This has happened to me twice since I began recording again in 2017…DOH!)

Thankfully, the mix came out pretty decent, so my grief over my stupidity was/is minimal.

Sent it to Tom Hellstens for remastering. As usual, he worked his magic on it.

Deep bows my friend!

A song about where we all find ourselves, here in the decaying post-modern West…

Enjoy!

Lyrics
MARKING TIME

Two old men sitting on a park bench, their jaws begin to wag.
They’re telling jokes and swapping stories, while drinking from a bag.
They’re marking time. They’re feeling fine.

Something’s coming up around the bend. They feel it in their bones;
but for now it’s once more ‘round the sun, riding this old stone.

Young folk milling all around here. They seldom see the sky.
Their eyes are fixed on their devices. They really don’t know why.
They’re marking time. Life’s passing them by.

How will this surreal drama end? Do any of them know?
We’re all along the watchtower now, just going with the flow.

Looking back at human history…
Choices we make determine each one of our destinies. Selah…

I’m sitting reading from the Scriptures, just looking for some light.
Asking Christ to heal my lameness…restore my inner sight.
I’m marking time. Been too long flying blind.

I need a heart of gold to go with, these sorry feet of clay;
…clearly see the path before me, and get out of my own way.

Something’s coming up around the bend. I feel it in my bones;
but for now it’s once more ‘round the sun, riding this old stone HOME!

We’re marking time. We’re marking time…

Great job.  Plenty of feel.  You are doing an important job helping keep the wheels turning here. Free music is the best!

Excellent song. I like the way it is structured. Keeping my attention all the way. Very well produced. Sound is great. And well played at all stations. Excellent vocal

This song definitely leaves something to think about. I like the tick tok effect of this ( and I don't mean tik tok app-lol)  I heard a little guitar riff from 3rd Stone of the Sun by Hendrix. Kudos to both you and Tom

Hated losing the original files. Still can't believe I was so careless, but sh*t happens!

This is old-guy rock to be sure. But who says it can't be fun and enjoyable? Let's all keep cranking out the very best tunes we can. Like Daug said "free music is the best"!
Glad you liked this one bro...

@Sociallite1957
Joyce,
Nothing gets by you! Lol...
FULL DISCLOSURE:
Tull's "Aqualung" inspired the old men sitting on the park bench. The reference to Hendrix's tune in the leads and in the line "riding this old STONE home" is quite deliberate, as is the thinly veiled shout-out to both Dylan and Hendrix's versions of "All Along The Watchtower;" while there's a nod to Neil Young in the line: "I need a heart of gold."
As you may have guessed, I had a ball writing this one.
Glad you enjoyed my friend!

Nice feel to this song.  I love the way it starts.  Reminds me of knocking on a glass door.  The mix is very nice - everything is easy to hear.  Great bass line and tone.  Cool tune, lyrics, vocal, and music. I like the reference to the watchtower, going with the flow.  And CCR goin' up around the bend. Well done!
