The City

I was born in a small town, where there isn’t much to do
I knew I had to get out, when I got through with you
I needed to go to the city, where there’s people all around
I could not stay one more week, I had to pack up and leave this town

In the city… Girls are oh so pretty
Smiles for everyone
And the lights… are oh so bright
Lighting up the sky

I shuffle through the crowd, I see the junkies on the street
City people aren’t so proud, there’s beggars at my feet
And the city is so big, I can get lost without a trace
If I die in the city, nobody will recognize my face

In the city… People have no pity
Stress for everyone
And the beggar on the street… has no shoes on his feet
People pass on by

So take me away from the city…  I don’t want to play this game.
Take me back to my home town, where everybody knows my name.
