Song information
Back in early May I posted a cautionary tune about a predatory female titled ICE COLD. At that time I promised my next post would balance the equation and be a cautionary tale about a predatory male.

Well, as soon as I posted the follow up some controversy ensued over my unfortunate use of a single word in the lyrics. As I’m not here to generate controversy (although I WILL always speak my mind!), I pulled the song down pending a slight revision in the lyrics.

Meanwhile, I’ve decided to post a song that should fit the bill.

This is a song about a man grappling with the fruits of a life-long accumulation of “bad karma.” It’s all about the spiritual principle of sowing and reaping.

In the immortal words of my late step-father Bob Solomon (the Wise):

“Ya’ plant potatoes, ya’ get potatoes!”

BTW, I stumbled on that synth effect quite by accident (Velo Jumper), and built the tune up from there.

Funny the variety of ways a song can come into being…

Be well friends!

Lyrics
CAUGHT IN THE WEB
I
…A prisoner of his own devising,
wholly self-deceived;
—tangled in the web he’s spun
by his own thoughts and deeds.
A soldier of misfortune,
he feels an inner dread;
contemplating pay-back
and the danger up ahead.

Chorus:
…caught in the web,
waitin’ for the Spider!
II
Though many chide and mock him,
this man’s nobody’s fool.
He knows he’s being hunted,
but there’s nothing he can do.
No place for him to run to.
No place for him to flee.
The web that holds him fast extends
far as the eye can see.

Chorus:
…caught in the web,
waitin’ for the Spider!

Bridge:
When he was a younger man his conscience
did inform his every choice;
but he has suppressed it’s witness for so very long
he can no longer hear its salutary voice!
III
He hates the life he’s living.
He wants only to be free.
He’s looking for an answer.
He’s searching for the key.

The Lord of Life stands ready,
to loose and let him go;
but he turned his back upon that path
a long long time ago.
So he’s…

Chorus:
…caught in the web…
Yeah,
 caught in the web,
waitin’ for the Spider!

The synth effect  sounds like a the motion of a web being woven!  Like the mean piano break.. Smart use of phaser/flanger.. very end part reminds me a little of Eye of the Tiger

@Sociallite1957
Thanks Joyce. Actually I never thought about the synth effect sounding like a web being woven. What an interesting idea!
BTW, I recorded this about a year and a half ago. It was the last song I did before injuring my left hand. The tightness of the lead soloing in the middle is something I may never be able to pull off again, apart from some very clever editing. Sigh...
Anyway, thanks again for listening and commenting my friend!

So you've decided to surprise us at each new song upload. Love this one and love this synth effect. Wow, at 1'35, back in prog-rock :-) This change is so delighting, so enjoyable. LOL, love that end too !

Gerald I have a really hard time getting out of the 70s! I figure though if I can just bring the 70s into the present with a new twist... LOL
Anyway, thanks for the thumbs up on the git and the synth.

Thank you Thierry. This song happened because I quite accidently stumbled on that synth effect and thought: "Man... that is bad a*s. I gotta DO something with it!" So I did! LOL...
RE changes in my music: I learned about that sort of approach primarily from listening faithfully to Jethro Tull from1969 to the present (along with other prog rock groups of course). I LOVE songs that go off to different places for awhile and then return to the main theme!

Thanks Matt... I've always been partial to longer songs. Not everyone is though... It's been a real discipline for me to learn how to craft shorter tunes while still filling them with enough changes to keep them interesting. This is probably my most successful endeavor in that vein...

Wow. What a super song. What a super production. I love the passion in both the music and the lyrics. This song has a purpose, a message. Some attitude. More of that from everyone. Cool work guys.

Mary I really don't know what band you're referring to. I have so many influences. Sometimes they all fuse together and a piece like this one results.
Anyhoo, thanks for the kind review!

@KennethLavrsen
Thanks Kenneth. I had the song almost completely recorded before the lyrics started coming. So the concept and words were definitely EVOKED/CONJURED by the music itself. I didn't start out to write a song with a message, it just happened that way. I always try to follow where the Muse leads (if that makes any sense).
