Memories… Observations… Apprehensions… Hopes…

SIGH...

Mastered by Tom Hellsten (TSTstudios)

---A clarification. The "red" streets mentioned in verse III refer to the gradual shift in emphasis from peace to violence in the youth culture since the 60s. It has nothing directly to do with the politics of so called "Red" vs "Blue" states...

Lyrics
GRIST FOR THE MILL

I
I remember back in '69,
when humans walked upon the moon;
we saw our planet from that great height.
It looked so peaceful we forgot our gloom.
Reality kicked back in soon...

II
I recall a time our hopes were bright.
Our future seemed secure.
Then shots were fired from that grassy knoll.
The light was snuffed out by some cur.
Or was it ever really there?

CHORUS:
The pages of our past lay open wide;
penned by history's bloody quill.
Can we read the writing on the wall?
When will we ever have our fill?
Guess it's all grist for the mill.

Bridge:
Here and there a light is shining,
as we stumble on our way;
eyes straining for the soft glow of the dawn,
and the fulness of the day.

III
I remember how back in the day,
peace, love, and brotherhood were sung.
I've seen the streets since turn from green to red.
How did we lose all that we gained?
No one but ourselves to blame...

CHORUS:
Can we awaken from this evil dream?
O please say you know we will!
Hope is a candle in the darkness that
surrounds and keeps us standing still,
---eyes ever focused on the kill.
It's all just grist for the mill...

Your vocals took on an extra introspective glow.. The instrumentation was fantasic and visual, like time travelling. Reminds me  a little of George Harrison. You know me with long songs- this was an exception to the rule. Smart mix..:) That ending was icing on the cake

A great story telling in that great song. Wonderful arrangements and guitar solo (with just a liitle touch of dissonance).
