Song information
This tune is a bit of an autobiographical rocker. (It really explains a lot. Lol…)

Sometime between 2007 and 2009 I recorded the demo for this song.

In 2023 I partially re-recorded it… tweaking the guitars and drums.

Not too long ago I sent it to Tom Hellsten for mastering. As usual, he did a great job.

Hope some of you can enjoy this one!

Lyrics
TWO STEPS BACK

I’ve spent most of my life and times
a-searching for the Light;
tryin’ to avoid those dead-end paths
strewn to the Left and to the Right.
This life’s a jungle, and I ain’t nobody’s fool;
but it’s no easy task to slice through all the bull!

Down life’s road I’m driving
strugglin’ to stake awake;
looking for a place I can pull over and stay.
Sometimes I misread the signs along the way.
I have to double back; start all over again!

Forgive me please, if I seem proud or rude;
but ol’ Diogenes’ got nothing on this dude.
After all that’s happened, I’m no worse for all the wear.
I’ve made my peace with this burden I must bear.
Oh yeah…

Every wakin’ hour I’m searching, just looking for that clue;
circlin’ the wagons in this merry dance that I do!
It might seem strange to you but I really have no choice.
I am committed to obey my inner voice.

Maps and torch in hand, I set off into the day;
lookin’ for a place I can pull over and stay.
Others seem to progress, must be something I lack.
I take one step forward, then I take two steps back!

Hello Don... Glad you can still make time to lend an ear old friend.
Sorry 'bout all the "screaming." That old guitar was certainly in a MOOD!
Lol...

Thanks man!
I was conflicted over whether or not the drums were too loud. Now I'm glad I left them alone.
:-)
I appreciate the kind words.

Nice song.  Mike love that guitar and I hear a higher range in your vocals.  Great arrangements too.

Thanks Matt.
As for the higher vocal range... well... I was a bit YOUNGER then! LOL...

As TrebleFace stated we feel the relative youth of your voice in that song. Voice can slightly change in 18 years.
Each of your song is a hit on iBS :-)

Sadly, a lot more than one's voice can change in 18 years; but let's not go there! LOL...

Many thanks Al!
I am, however, a little disappointed that no one has mentioned the backwards guitar soloing in the mid-section. I thought it sounded pretty cool. Oh well.
I appreciate your clocking in on this one. ALWAYS good to see your face!

Yes indeed, Stan, I played all those instruments.
Of course, the drums aren't live, but rather Apple Loops that I cut and pasted together.
I do prefer a live drummer, but more often than not one is not available, so I do the best I can to emulate one.
