Back to the Master.

Beethoven’s love for nature is boundless. It is with her that he finds peace and rest. It is with her that he feels happiest and most fully inspired.

"What a pleasure then to be able to wander in the woods, the forests, among the trees, the grass, the rocks. No one could love the countryside as I do. The forests, the trees, the rocks indeed give us the desired echo." (Beethoven, letter to Theresa Malfatti, Vienna, May 1810)

This unique work probably remains the most original of his nine symphonies. The only symphony in five movements, it offers a true musical portrait of nature.

The first movement is marked Allegro ma non troppo and provided with the subtitle : "Awakening of pleasant impressions on arriving in the countryside". The first theme, full of grace, is played by the violins and contains a rhythmic motif that will be present throughout the movement.

Hope some of you will appreciate my work behind this piece.

Lovely work, Thierry!
Even though I have performed in symphonies and played a lot of his symphonies, truth be told, Beethoven is not a favourite of mine, but I do enjoy this movement. I am always reminded of the movie 'Soylent Green' when I hear this.
I don't think that you are playing each part on a midi keyboard to realize this; that would be cumbersome indeed. Are you importing a .midi file and then tinkering with the rendering in a .wav, .raw or .mp3 format? I've done that it the work required to get a satisfactory result is onerous indeed. Importing .midi files contains so many errors, that I often decided it was simply to enter each note manually, on a note by note basis. It was quicker!
Overall, this sounds very good. There are some minor synch issues, and balance issues. The violin sample could be tweaked. However, I commend on your result as I know full well the amount of work required in pulling this off!

@StanTheManLoh Thanks a lot for your listen and comment my friend.
@soulima What would be a classical uploaded piece without John's fine comments ? Yes, I am importing a multi-track midi files and the reference file for comparison (Herbert Von Karajan's performance) then spend a huge lot of times every 5 seconds to tweak the tracks (adding articulation changes, humanization, expressions, modulations, volume changes, tempo changes, ...). Each movement needs between 30 and 50 hours depending on the length and the complexity. Thanks a lot for your very interesting comment John.

This is one of the first classical records I bought back in my 20s and one of the pieces that made me listen to classical music.
It is a very easy to listen to symphony because of its story telling and obvious nature/weather music images.
In this 1st movement there is that rhythmic starting around 2-3 minutes. It is composed like a heavy rock band would have written music. I always think. If Beethoven lived in our time, and he has in his toolbox electric guitars with fuzz pedals, and bass guitars with drive pedal and a drum kit mic'ed up with heavy compression and saturation. How would that passage sound like? I think he would have kicked some butt.  It still kicks butt even with the old classical instruments. Well done Thierry. Hard work, great award.
