Patrick(Lafayette) and I did this song a few years ago. Another important election is coming up. For me, it's cause for concern.

Lyrics
Our Country Isn’t White Bread
Vocals and lyrics by Mary McGrath
Copyright 11/13/16

The race is finally over
Didn’t think he’d ever win
And now the dice is showing
Rolling craps until the end

Gambling with our commerce
Human rights, ethnicities
Our country’s one of inclusion
Thriving on diversity

Power over others
Has changed throughout the years
We’ve all been immigrants
As we’ve fought with blood and tears.

For our country isn’t white bread
It’s filled with many types of seeds
Full of life and flavor
Not a racist form of greed

I’m fearful of the future
For the progress we have made
Might soon be strangled
Filled with force and hate

Our country isn’t white bread….

Let’s hope I’m wrong
I must be brave
And hope our country
Remains solvent and strong

No we aren’t white bread…..

Nice song.  Love your vocals. You'd think that the candidates for the most important positions in the world would be the most qualified people in the world but instead they are people scraped off the bottom of the barrel. Then again I think they are just mouth peices for people/organizations in the background pulling the strings.

No... we certainly aren't. We've always been a nation of immigrants. We always will be...
However, there is a HUGE difference between LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigration. The results of the latter on American society as a whole have been disastrous.
It's important for all of us to be very clear on the real nature of the issue, so as not to slide into vacuous and divisive sloganizing.
This is a great song Mary. The music, the lyrics, the vocals combine to make it a true GEM!
Enjoyed!

It used to be that you could get vetted at Ellis Island when you came over here from another country. What happened to that? As far as politics goes, I think they are basically cereal brands… Which one has more sugar? Which one has more fiber? Which one has the best position in the shopping aisle? I come from a marketing background so I find all of this quite fascinating. Speech writing, copywriting, it all comes into play at this juncture.

Absolutely agree that immigration has to be under control.  At the same time, immigrant employees saved my businesses because before they arrived in my city I couldn't find anyone to work and I was on the verge of closing the doors.  Now I employ 25 and not one white kid.  They just don't want to work for minimum wage.  People think that a business can just pay more but when you are working at 5% profit margins you can't easily raise the wages.  Especially when they are non skilled jobs.

I very much like the message here.  It's quite effective.   The vocals and horns really stand out here, but the mellow fell of the music really works well with the lyrics presented as if they allow what needs to be said with gentleness.

I get quite emotional every time you post a collab with Patrick... Plus a real, strong and true message in the lyrics. Thank you and bravo, Mary.

Thank you, everyone… It was easy to work with Patrick as you all know. And I don't do political commentary very often, but his music inspired this.

@Sociallite1957 I just came across your Bob Dylan cover, 'serve somebody'… I can't remember when you did it, but it was really nice to hear that song again. You did such a great job!

@Grathy Wow.. I must have recorded that a decade ago at least. Thank you for that feedback. I don't even remember where I posted it
