Song information
Back in May I posted a song about a predatory female called “Ice Cold.” At that time I promised my next tune—“Reckless”— would be about a predatory male.

Well, when I finally posted it, controversy immediately ensued over an unfortunate lyric. While I thought the reaction a tad overblown, I decided to take the song down till I could replace the offending lyric with one less potentially incendiary. (After all, it was never my intention to cause a ruckus, or to offend anyone!)

So here—at long last—is the corrected version.

It’s yet another rocker with a chewy prog center!

I hope some of you can enjoy it!

Many thanks to Tom Hellstens for his excellent mastering!

Lyrics
RECKLESS

He’s a big dog, a reckless  male!
He’ll grab a passing comet by the tail;
ride it bareback into the Sun…
Anything goes, so long as it’s fun!

He is a wild card, a loose cannon, that’s for sure.
He’s not concerned with all the rest.
—Pursues the ladies with a heart that is impure;
blind to the fact that he’s a pest…

He’s a big dog, a reckless male!
He’s got the moxy; the wind in his sails.
Thinks it impossible that he could fail;
until one day he’s swallowed by a whale.

He has no time for others suffering and pain.
He says he’s really not to blame.
But he’s left behind a bloody trail of broken hearts.
The body-count begins to mount!

On rare occasions he will snatch a lucid moment;
—a nagging insight into his own true condition
It makes him so uneasy, this unsought for ferment!
He will suppress it so it does’t become permanent.
NO!

He plays the fool, livin’ for thrills;
suckin’ the bottle, and swallowing pills.
Lives like tomorrow never will come;
but they’ll be a reckoning when the day is done.
They’ll be a reckoning when the day is done!

He got no back up plan, got no ace in the hole.
He laughs and says “That’s how I roll.”
One has to wonder, yeah, I’d really like to know…
Who’ll have his back, when it’s time to pay the toll?

He’s a big dog, the reckless one!
Prime donna! Unfortunate son!
Hollow heart with nothing to show…
Will he awake before it’s time to go?
Will he awake before it’s time to go?
Will he awake before… ?

Love that middle part and the guitar playing especially the solo.  Lots of change of paces which are really cool.
Nice message.  I have no love for liars and users.

Wow, what an intro, very original. Love that middle part too. Cool use of synths in this one. Lot of energy in that song and I like that.

Ha. Glad you enjoyed the intro Thierry. I was trying to create a sonic tornado effect but wasn't quite able to pull it off. Still, what I ended up with seems to work anyway.
Mid section full of surprises which I know you enjoy, just like I do! Lol...

When I saw that pic I just had to have it! Lol...
Anyway, that "clear good sound" you speak of surprised even me. It's mostly due to Tom Hellsten's mastering technique.
Thanks for listening bro!

Thanks Gerald. I'm afraid that my many years of listening to Jethro Tull and those classic Moody Blues albums is showing here. Ha ha...

Great song and great message.I particularly like the music on the bridge and the tempo.change immediately afterwards.  The tone on the guitar solo, as well as the solo itself was fantastic.
