All instruments, vocals, mix & mastering Dyl-made. Song written by Gillian Welch. Turned out 'almost'.. almost folk, almost blues, almost rock. So let's go with 'folk' anyway ! Hope you'll enjoy...

Lyrics
Buddy, I went down to Scarlet Town
Ain't never been there before
Well, you slept on a feather bed
I slept on the floor

Now I don't mind a lean old time
Or drinking my coffee cold
But the things I seen in Scarlet Town
Did mortify my soul

Well, look at that deep well
Look at that dark grave
Ringing that iron bell
In Scarlet Town today

Now I spent some time in New Orleans
And in Cairo on a bend
But Scarlet Town brought me down
Low as I ever been

Ahh, look at that deep well
Look at that dark grave
Ringing that iron bell
In Scarlet Town today

The day I came to Scarlet Town
You promised I'd be your bride
But you left me here to rot away
Like Polly on the mountainside

Ahh, look at that deep well
Look at that dark grave
Ringing that iron bell
In Scarlet Town today

Now you may hide in Scarlet Town
For a hundred years or more
But the man who knows what time it is
Is knocking at the door

So fare you well, my own true love
If you ever see me around
I'll be looking through a telescope
From hell to Scarlet Town

Now look at that deep well
Look at that dark grave
Ringing that iron bell
In Scarlet Town today

It might be almost a lot of things, but one thing it definitly is is a great tune. Nice and gritty, both musically and lyrically. Enjoyed it.
Thanks for sharing!

Awesome track Dyl! Love the Cohen-esque vocal vibe.
Raw and rootsy! Reminds me a little of latter day John Hiatt...
Think I might have thumbed through that down once back in the day.

Another great track mon ami!! Folk Blues, to me, it sounds like middle age troubadours too. But most of all that Dylan's style

Very compelling to the ears and picturesque- I know the others hear Leonard ohen but I don't.. A bit more like Robbie Robertson style. In any event- 2 thumbs up

You know how it's done... I'm guessing that if there was no place to post music.. you would still be working at this craft... as always great work

More rock than folk to my ears. Anyway, great performance in this song. Bob Dylan did a song about Scarlet Town too :-)
