Song information
Hello friends. Back a little sooner than I thought.

Nevertheless, it’s a long way to January 6th/20th. Hoping for a civil and peaceful transfer of power here in the US. We’ll see what happens!

I wrote and recorded this song back in 2018. Recently remixed it. My friend Tom Hellsten mastered it.

It was recorded with the acoustic guitar in drop D tuning.

This one draws on ancient Hebraic and Classical Greco-Roman imagery to make it’s point.

Hope some of you can enjoy it!

Lyrics
CHILDREN OF EVE

I
The Garden in our rear-view mirror,
—Vesuvius looming up in the distance.
We’re heading for the Pompeii of
our own blind resistance.
The fig-leaves of delusion
for our make-shift covering.
We dance, and jest, while overhead
the vultures are seen hovering…

CHORUS:
Spawn of Adam, children of Eve,
lonely exiles, rebel seed…
Our past forgotten, our future unclear;
we sip the hemlock of illusion and fear!
Will we ever find our way back home?

II
Staring down the barrel
of our own impending death.
Seems that this game of life’s
much like Russian roulette.
Seated at the tables of chance,
it’s there we place our bets.
No lucky seven rolls…
snake-eyes is all we ever get!

(Repeat Chorus)

III
Why do we go on listening,
to this world’s infernal hissing?
We need a wise and powerful hand,
to lead us out of this dark land…
Oh Lord!

IV
Clinging to this lying bill of goods
that we’ve been sold;
we’re all just blind beggars,
sitting on a bench of gold!
Sometimes I sit and wonder,
just how we can go on;
but they say it’s always darkest
right before the dawn…

(Repeat Chorus)

Thanks Dorothy! Nice to be back. Needed to step back and take inventory
of my life. Also needed to attend to a few other things that were being neglected.
Hope to stick around.

Good to hear you again, Mike- I knew you'd be back sooner rather than later. Reminds me a little of Jethro Tull sans flute.. or some other British progressive rock artists of the 70s..Love that organ ad tasty cowbell.. Yes, it was darkness for the past 4 years but I sense a new dawn...

Hi Joyce! You are perceptive as usual. Music inspired to a degree by some tunes in Jethro Tull's 1970 album "Benefit."
As for a new dawn. It remains to be seen. I for one am hopeful.

Very interesting instrumental intro. Like the change at 2:52, some good prog rock arrangements. It's good to listen to some very nice rock pieces.

Thanks Charlie!
You know I've thought about doing a rock opera, but I'm very lazy and it seems like it would be way too much work! Lol...
Indeed, I haven't picked up my guitar in months. Don't have quite the energy I used to...

Good to have you back.  That intro reminded me a lot of the Doors with it's organ.  Very good insightful points in the lyrics.   The instrumental part in the middle was a bit like Santana, which I also thought was cool.   Super cool rock tune, you've got here.

Thanks Mark. Doors, Santana, Tull... like so many other great bands, have been in heavy rotation in my home over the decades. Not at all surprising when their influence is heard in my tunes!
