This is a popular song written by Cole Porter for the 1935 musical Jubilee. The song has become a standard of the American Songbook with dozens of recordings from Pop Artists (ex:Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Dionne Warwick) and Jazz Greats (ex:Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Anita O’Day, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins)
Charlie Parker’s 1954 recording is Incredible but Sonny Rollins' blistering tenor sax solo on the 1956 album, Max Roach +4, blew me away.
It was the first album Max Roach recorded after his collaborators, trumpeter Clifford Brown and pianist Richie Powell died in a car crash in June 1956. Max Roach regrouped with trumpeter Kenny Dohram and pianist Ray Bryant filling unfillable holes. Tenor sax Great Sonny Rollins and bassist George Morrow remained from the earlier band.
There is open solo space from 1:55-2:49.
