Song information
A song with history. I wrote most of the music for this when I was 18. By about 1996 or '97 the song was complete, but it was a lot slower than what you hear when you play this. It was much more of an early Black Sabbath kind of thing. I resurrected it around the time of the pandemic, when I was playing Porcupine Tree's "In Abesentia" album, and was inspired to bring the tune back. It's much more hard rock/prog than what I usually write. Lyricwise, it's basically escaping to the Silver Sea to find contentment and freedom, or escape from the life a person might have known. I was living in LA in the early 90's, and was thinking about such things at the time. An old roommate of mine, helped make some revisions to the lyrics, but they're mostly mine.

Lyrics
Now it's time, my leave I must take
Time to test the waters fresh from the lake
Clear water is the next best thing to a man's delight
Surely as a crowd which bathes in the bright

And I've tried so hard to find you
And it takes so long to see it through
They laugh and talk about a ship set on a yonder phase
Laugh and talk about simple happy days
Listen you fools heed my word there
Your ship is no longer here or there

And I've tried so hard to find you
And it takes so long to see it through
All perceptions turn cold asunder
Fire and sky only you can render
Many a man can sight the stars
Draw out of course and gaze in wonder
It's all down to cold asunder
Illumination only you can render
Many a man can find the way
Revel in the thunder of cold asunder

The guards are gone time to find my way
All phantom fears have turned away
Follow the stream of bright tomorrow
Revel in the new don't fall below

No jewel or diamond can make a wind speak bold
Peace in the making and growing tenfold

Now I find the place where I want to hide
Friends have gathered I can release my pride
But it's a shame no one chose to follow me
Few are they who seek the silver sea

And I've tried so hard to find you
And it takes so long to see it through

To remember the way back to cold asunder
Fire and sky only you can render
Many a man can sight the stars
Draw out a course and sail in winter

It's all down to cold asunder
Illumination only you can render
Many a man can strike the flame
Revel in the thunder of cold asunder

Certainly a bit of a departure from your usual approach, yet still rooted in your acoustic guitar and vocal stylings. Another BIG winner Mark!
