Song information
There is an extinct volcanic caldera in west Texas known as The Solitario. Its crater is about eight miles in diameter. Years ago I was fortunate to visit this restricted access place for a few days.

This song is quite literally about this amazing show of volcanic power, geology, and time.

Lyrics
SOLITARIO

In the desert sand, a gaping yawn
A scar in the land eight miles long
The caldera reeks of ancient fire
Welcome to the defunct gates of hell
Welcome
Welcome

The sea wash in
The sea wash out
The blister rises and then blows out

When the harmony's right
the Earth will bless us with holy fire
The caldera sinks to depths unknown
Over the edge
Welcome
Welcome
Welcome
Welcome to the Solitario

In the Solitario
that yawn will eat you whole
In the Solitario
Go in alone
Go in alone
Go in alone
Go in alone
to the Solitario
to the Solitario

Upthrust twisted and shattered fossil rock
you find your way through the deep tinajas
to the cottonwoods where the water's found
The sea wash in
The sea wash out
The blister rises and then blows out
Now it's the Solitario

Solitario
Solitario
Solitario
Solitario

Go in alone... Go in alone...
To the Solitario
That gaping yawn will swallow you whole
