This was quickly made for a 4-track challenge back in November. The rules were use only 4 tracks, one instrument per track, no changing instruments, no overdubbing. Just 4 sounds on 4 tracks. I thought a jazz combo would work well for that.
The 4 tracks here are - drums, bass, piano, synth. It sounds like more because the bass sound used is the ‘ Moon bass’ patch from the Korg iM1 synth which sounds good for a bass in the lower range, but also sounds like an electric keyboard in the higher register. So when recording I played bass in the left hand while doing comping with the right hand higher up for an EP sound. These were all first takes, no editing, so mistakes-a-plenty.
