Song information
I noticed that I haven't really posted anything that takes my electric guitar for a spin so, my electric makes an appearance toward the end... I wrote this song when I lived in Philly, living over the Schuylkill River looking west across the river into a desolate industrial area… forsaken and a little dangerous… one early morning the sun behind me reflected off one of the windows in an old warehouse far away, and I thought “wow it looks beautiful”… knowing full well that the place was treacherous… and I thought about my early days of addiction, and how an illusion kept me pursuing something that just wasn’t there… thankfully those days are far far behind me now…. These lyrics emerged from that moment… As a side note… I wrote the 1st 2 verses around 1985 and I wrote the last verse around 2015… around a 30 year span, so I guess we sometimes have to circle back around to finish a project .. one more thing… I love to play bass, but when Dave Edwards asks to play bass on anything… you say “YES”

Lyrics
He rose early as the sun light made it’s way across the sky
from his window he would make his morning plan
but west across the valley some reflection caught his eye
with a blinding hint of diamonds in that land

how do I get there look how the streets all shine so bright
when do I get there look at the city bathed in light
I must get there if I can
I’ll die if I don’t reach that crystal land

So he tip-toed out the back door in his finest Sunday clothes
with his heart set on the city trimmed in chrome
he didn’t tell his father because daddy would say no
when he closed the door he left his childhood home

how do I get there look how the streets all shine so bright
when do I get there look at the city bathed in light
I must get there if I can
I’ll die if I don’t reach that crystal land

I have seen this in the half light of a thousand misty dawns
how the glimmer plays on lingering hope that's lost
can vision still be trusted thru the eyes of our desire
we wager worlds and pray there is no cost

how do I get there look how the streets all shine so bright
when do I get there look at the city bathed in light

I’ll never get there

this song was worth the long wait. It is well written. Your vocal work - both lead - and choir. I get the same feeling from listening as some of the similar tracks from early 80s Alan Parsons Project which is what shaped my music universe as a young man
