Song information
I wrote my very first song in 1970, while sitting in my High School Geography Class.

I wrote my second song in 1972 while taking a bubble bath!

Neither one of these songs have ever been recorded.

I wrote my third song in 1972 as well.

When I wrote this I was just a few months into recovery from several years of constant and very heavy drug use.
Needless to say I really WAS 'tired.'

I've always liked this one. I decided it was long past time to record it.

I played it for my very good friend Dan. He liked it and was only too happy to collaborate with me on it.

So here it is. It's an inspirational folk-rock song.

PHOTO is me in 1972.

Lyrics
GOT SOME KIND OF BLUES

I
Got some kind of blues.
I put a pack on my back.
I packed my guitar,
my Bible and a sack.

Chorus:
Goin' deep into the woods.
Gonna find me a Rock!
Gonna rest my weary soul.
Gonna have me a talk...

II
Got some kind of blues.
There's a hurt inside my head.
I cannot seem to shake it.
Makes me wish that I was dead.

Chorus:
Goin' deep into the woods.
Gonna find me a Rock!
Gonna rest my weary soul.
Gonna have me a talk.

Transition:
Got some kind of blues;
for what reason I can't say.
It's some kind of darkness,
that makes me feel this way.
Hey hey hey...

(Instrumental Section)

III
Got some kind of blues.
Must be something in the air.
I cannot seem to shake it
I need to speak to One Who cares.

Chorus:
Goin' deep into the woods.
Gonna find me a Rock!
Gonna rest my weary soul.
Gonna have me a talk...

...with God!
Jesus help me. I'm tired.

Ooo Ooo Ooo Ooo Oooo
Got some kind of blues.
Jesus help me. I'm tired... (4x)

This was an instant favorite to my ears.  Your vocal aching matched the mood of the lyrics..   The music has glints of hope mixed with vocal expression of one that is weary and and the harmonica music bridge reminded me a little of Neil Young..  Your voice, though far superior.. Like the organ which gives it a hint of gospel?  Your musician friend Dan, gets the kudos for his playing as well.  FYI- The photo of you looks just like a guitarist I worked on music projects with and his birthday was the same day as yours!

after many years i finally realized why my fiance set off into a different path, and that was the end of it... i suspect it was because i kept saying i wanted to be somewhere else, and somehow that idea was not in her worldview at the time.
this song made me remember that whole thing.
that's good. that's what music is for. i thank you for making feel something i almost forgot about

Thanks so much Joyce.
This is the third time Dan and I have teamed up. I really like how it turned out.
His guitar, dulcimer, and harmonica playing filled out the tune nicely IMHO.

Thanks for listening and commenting Bill.
Sorry about the memory it evoked.
A little while ago I was listening to Venturesome's "Goodbye Bonnie Bee" and had a similar experience!
But you're right. It's one of the things music is great for!

Great song mike.  Love your laid back singing, great lyrics and that instrumental is so very cool.
A soulful self-shakedown of a young guy in sesrch of R&R and some answers. A laid-back song that sounds weary yet keeps on fliating along on a wave of hope. Good writing, performance and mix.

Yeah Don, when I quit doing ***** I was subject to periods of deep depression for the first year or so.
Got over them finally. The joy of the Lord became my strength!
Love ya man!
