Dust on my boots, breath running slow,

Climbed through the silence where only winds go.

Now I sit still, where the kea flies free,

Sky all around, and the world under me.

High on the ridge, I feel their flame,

The old ones whisper in the mountain's name.

Their footsteps linger in stone and sky

I see with their eyes when the clouds drift by.

The valleys below hold stories untold,

Carved in the earth, in the rivers and gold.

I hear the songs in the rustle of trees,

Their spirit lives on in the breath of the breeze.
