Song information
I first moved to Australia from Poland as an exchange student, and I fell for the place straight away. That’s why I stayed on and did my degree at the University of Sydney.

From then on, my Sydney uni friends and I made a point of catching up every year. Even after we graduated, we kept that tradition going for a long time. Later, life shifted again — I moved to New Zealand, and then to Germany, where I live now.

Still, the ritual never really vanished. It just changed shape. Emma, who’s part of that same group, lives only a few streets away here in Hamburg, so every fortnight we do our little café routine. At the same time, we jump on Zoom with the rest of the crew, coffees in hand, and we still do that familiar “cheers” with our mugs like we always used to. It’s a small thing, but it pulls us right back into the laughter, the stories, and the memories.

For this song, I asked Garni to play keys alongside Piotr and me. Gemma’s very busy with session work at the moment, so she couldn’t join us this time. Garni sent his part back, and it fit the track beautifully.

Hope you enjoy this.

Lyrics

We slide into our corner, same warm little light,

Steam on the window, the street still feels alright.

The barista knows our order, no fuss, no show,

And every cup lands like a quiet “hello”.

This is the moment I want to keep close,

A table full of stories, a room full of hope.

We laugh like we’ve got nowhere else to be,

In our favorite café, with our friends beside me.

Someone tells a bad joke, we lose it again,

Sugar spills, then someone wipes it like a friend.

Old photos pass around with the spoons and the cups,

And the years feel kind when the whole group shows up.

This is the moment I want to keep close,

A table full of stories, a room full of hope.

We laugh like we’ve got nowhere else to be,

In our favourite café, with our friends beside me.

We talk through the hard bits, then breathe them out,

We don’t fix everything, but we drown out doubt.

We raise our mugs to the good we still find,

And the world slows down when our hearts align.

This is the moment I want to keep close,

A table full of stories, a room full of hope.

We laugh like we’ve got nowhere else to be,

In our favourite café, with our friends beside me.

When the chairs scrape back and the afternoon goes,

I’ll carry this glow wherever I roam.

Same place, same faces, same easy truth
feel at home when I sit with you.

Poetry set to music. Immaculate performances from all as usual and some very subtle pad additions from Garni.
