Going to California
Late 1960s West Coast folk-pop inspired song about travel, quiet longing and open roads. - Key: F♯ Major – 89 BPM
Mid-tempo in a warm major key with gentle nostalgia. Acoustic guitar leads with steady flowing strumming, supported by soft electric piano harmonies. A round melodic bass and light drum kit with subtle tambourine sway create relaxed forward motion.

Airy vocal harmonies lift the chorus, with very light string touches adding emotional warmth without overpowering the simplicity. Written and produced by me. The lead vocal is a produced studio voice crafted to fit the late-60s West Coast atmosphere of the track. My focus here was songwriting, arrangement and overall sonic direction.

Simple verse-chorus structure, short instrumental pause, extended final chorus with soft fade out. Mood: hopeful, reflective, slightly wistful.
Open sky. Warm air. Quiet anticipation. Pure late 1960s West Coast atmosphere. No modern elements.

Lyrics
Verse 1
I packed my bag this morning
Didn’t leave a note behind
Just a feeling in my pocket
And a picture in my mind

The road was already calling
Before I closed the door
Some things keep on moving
Even when you’re not sure

Chorus
I’m going to California
With the sun upon my face
I don’t know what I’m looking for
But I know I need the space
I’m going to California
Where the sky feels wide and free
I’m not running from a feeling
I’m just going where I need to be

Verse 2
Every mile feels lighter
As the city fades away
The answers don’t feel urgent
They can wait another day

I’ve been holding on too tightly
To things I couldn’t change
Now I let the road decide
If everything feels strange

Chorus
I’m going to California
With the wind beside my name
I don’t need a destination
I don’t need the same old frame
I’m going to California
Let the daylight carry me
I’m not chasing any promise
Just the chance to breathe

Bridge (soft harmonies)
Some dreams are made of silence
Some are made of sound
But every heart knows the moment
When it’s time to turn around

Final Chorus (extended)
I’m going to California
Where the nights feel warm and slow
I don’t know what waits tomorrow
But I’m ready now to go
I’m going to California
With an open hand and mind
Leaving just enough behind me
To remember who I was
