For years I’ve been captivated by the artistic brilliance of French composer Erik Satie (1866-1925). His most famous works are the three blissful piano pieces known as the Gymnopédies. During his lifetime his work was relatively unknown. However, during the 1960s he became more well-known and appreciated.
One piece which continues to stir me deeply is Gnossienne No. 1. Originally composed between 1889 and 1893, this song exudes sadness, beauty, intrigue, and hypnotic simplicity all at the same time.
I have heard many wonderful renditions of this song over the years. So, I thought I would come up with my own. I hope that you enjoy it.
