Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale – 1967
The Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, introduced in 1967, is one of the most legendary Italian sports cars ever built. It was the road-going version of the Tipo 33 racing prototype, developed by Alfa Romeo’s racing department, Autodelta, under engineer Carlo Chiti.
Its stunning body was designed by Franco Scaglione and handcrafted in aluminium by Carrozzeria Marazzi. Only 18 examples were produced, making it one of the rarest Alfa Romeos ever built.
The car was powered by a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated V8, derived directly from the racing engine. It produced approximately 230 hp at 8,800 rpm, with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.
Thanks to its extremely low weight of around 700 kg, the 33 Stradale could reach approximately 260 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.5 seconds.
Its lightweight construction, mid-mounted engine, racing technology and spectacular butterfly doors made it an extraordinary car for its time.
Today, an original 33 Stradale can be worth many millions of euros, depending on its condition, originality and provenance. Exceptional examples have been valued at well over €10 million.
Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale “Perla Nera”
Almost sixty years later, Alfa Romeo revived the legendary name with a new, strictly limited 33 Stradale. Only 33 cars are being produced.
One of them is the unique “Perla Nera”, unveiled at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese in September 2026.
“Perla Nera”, meaning “Black Pearl”, was created as a one-off commission for a collector through Alfa Romeo's bespoke Bottega programme.
Its most distinctive feature is its exposed matte carbon-fibre bodywork. Instead of conventional paint, the carbon fibre itself forms the exterior finish, giving the car an entirely black and highly distinctive appearance.
The interior follows the same philosophy, combining black Alcantara and carbon fibre, with numerous details personalised specifically for its owner.
The Perla Nera is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 producing more than 630 hp. Power is sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
It can reach approximately 333 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds.
The modern 33 Stradale is built around a carbon-fibre monocoque and aluminium chassis, combining low weight with modern performance and technology.
The new 33 Stradale has been reported at around €1.5–2 million or more, depending on specification and taxes. The exact value of the unique Perla Nera has not been publicly disclosed, and there is currently no documented public sale establishing its market value.
The original 33 Stradale and the Perla Nera therefore represent two different eras of Alfa Romeo: the first a 700 kg racing machine adapted for the road, the second a 630+ hp carbon-fibre supercar built as an exclusive collector's piece.
Both share the same philosophy: Italian design, racing heritage, engineering excellence and extreme rarity.
