This is the first song that both my boys play drums and bass together on… So as I was arranging this song, I was programming drums and the meter alternates between 5/4 and 6/4… the drums were sounding very mechanical… wooden… non human, and it was really screwing up the feel of the song, which should swing… on a whim I asked my youngest son Ian if he would take a pass at it… he was still in high school but musically he was growing in leaps and bounds… I had just attended his jazz band concert and he had really surprised me… I set up the mics and never looked back…
