It seems that the listening is only counted when the listener is a registered user and it is the first time you listen. I also posted songs on Facebook and received feedback there without seeing the counter increase.

It may not be an error but a feature. If you count every hit on a song from anonymous sources, you can get many false counts from bots and search engines that keep on counting for no good reason. It is not easy to make. I have run webservers for 25 years and it has gone crazy with how many bots that create bogus traffic. And you can create a script is minutes that creates 1000s of bogus listens if someone would have a pleasure of that

It's stingy on purpose to prevent the kind of mischief that occurred on iC, like the one guy who drove up his song counts by having bots play his song. That's an extreme example, but there were other examples where people would try to game the system. I'm conflicted about how plays are counted, because it does reject legitimate plays, but I'm not sure the best way to handle this.

Thank you for your responses, it makes perfect sense. Those bots, eh? I prefer the old fashioned ones. Where’s Isaac Asimov when you need him? Perhaps the Three Laws of Robotics needs to be updated for current times 🤖
