Nothing much seems to happen in the forums nowadays. Here are some topics that might be of interest.
For those of you who use Cakewalk or Sonar, Bandlab continues their control of what was free software. It is still free software but now tied into a subscription model with a "free tier". Also on offer is an online DAW that has been compared with GarageBand. Users of this DAW can collaborate but the system takes some getting used to.
The use of AI in music keeps on generating controversy. A while back I created a track with some AI additions, ever since I have been trying to remix it without the AI and now wish I had never used it.
Hello @zincshed ! I'm curious about this AI thing : is that add impossible to use/change/mix ? What was it ? I never used AI to generate music but it sounds like you're trapped (and it's not nice i guess !!!)...
Hi @Dyl thanks for your question. The track in question is “Don’t Fight The Funk” which I posted in June 2025. The first 8 bars of this post came from an old project which is on my DAW but was never completed. After 8 bars I cross faded into the Suno version. Suno now adds in its own vocalist, lots of riffs and a solo but keeps the loop going.
At first I was quite amused by the result. I thought let me transcribe all those riffs, create a new structure and redo the vocals as this would create a track with no AI generated sound. The trouble is the AI version is now stuck in my head and I find it hard to remix the track or add my own touches. I probably have to go back to the original project and build it up from there. Any thoughts welcome.
@zincshed ah ok .. it's more a 'psychological' issue than a technical one !!! Just listened to this track. As much as the Suno thing sounds clean and pro, i kinda like the first 8 bars more ... Your idea to start again from the original is a good idea. After all, this AI is feeding on this first version... you can do it too...
Thanks for sharing your experience friend. Better to roll up one's sleeves and do the work as best as one can. I find it both more honest and---at the end of the day---far more rewarding. When you run into something somewhat beyond your skill set you can always find someone a tad more gifted in that particular area who may be willing to pitch in. I rely upon collaboarators for precisely that reason. I am aware of my limitations but I don't let that stop me. Besides, it's big fun to see what other creative individuals can bring to the table. I personally can't imagine letting a souless entity like AI do my work for me, but I'm starting to ramble here... So fare well!
