Move air.  If there is a way to record your rig straight do it! Then add effects. Then eq. 
I know the guitar synths are good.  They don’t move air.  
The difference is authenticity.  Yes I can hear air. 
Elevate the amp off the floor, removes rumble.  
Use at least two microphones.  I have a bunch of those, but I end up with Shures about six inches off the cone. 
Because I use small amps I get away with a room mike and the close sound. Use as many mikes as you need. Experiment. 
Mix them in the space.  
What that means is the room has a sound.  If your space is virtual use a room reverb from a DAW.  
Make every choice with the virtual room in mind.  
No one can play like Danny Gatton, or, Alan Holdsworth.  But.  Learn. 
Listen to solos and see how these artists could build from simply and take the listener on a journey.   
The engineering should not get the kudos.
