Song information
I always wanted a daughter, but Diane and I had three sons instead. Although we loved them all, I still longed for a daughter.

At length, my son Nathan and his then wife brought their second child into the world: a beautiful redheaded girl, and they named her Danielle.

Needless to say, I instantly fell head-over-heels in love!

When she was just a toddler, Diane and I got to babysit her and her slightly older brother Jordan quite a lot. Those were wonderful times!

However, at that age Danielle was as clumsy as she was beautiful, and in most of the photos we have of her from that period, she has scrapes and bruises! Hence the song title.

When she was a few years old, her parents had to move away from Salem, Oregon to a town in Idaho. We were grief stricken to no longer have Danielle and Jordan in our lives!

I took the loss especially hard, and wrote this song to express and process my broken heart.

The good news is that—some years later—her family moved back to Salem, and we’ve long since reconnected.

Today Danielle is an intelligent and compassionate young woman. We’re very proud of both her and her brother, and are grateful to have them in our lives.

This one borders on Progressive Rock.

Btw, I’m no pianist. That piano solo in the mid-section began as a sample in Logic Pro, which I seriously altered by moving notes around, adding some new notes, and deleting others. (Confession is good for the soul.)

Enjoy!

Lyrics
KAMIKAZE BALLERINA

I
She got deep dark eyes.
Her hair red like the roses.
Her smile can light a fire,
in the very coldest of souls.

She’s a beauty to behold;
but she’s a danger to her…to herself
don’tcha know?

II
She shoot out of the gate,
like a red tornado do!
She got scrapes and bruises,
cover her from head to toe.

Sometimes she walkin’ with a limp.
Compared to her I’m just a silly old wimp!

Chorus:
Ah how I miss that girl,
ever since she moved away.
Does she ever think me?
I think of her every day!
How can I let her know?
I don’t know where to start…
Where ever she may go.
she’ll always have my heart!
She’ll always have my heart!

Refrain:
Kamikaze ballerina! (2x)

III
When that girl reach her teens,
she gonna knock ‘em dead.
You know I hope and pray,
that she can keep her head.
‘Cause scrapes and bruises head to toe,
not like the pain of a wounded soul ,
don’tcha know?

IV
I hope when she get older,
she’ll come to stay awhile;
so we can share some moments,
so I can make her smile.

She needs to know
no matter where she may roam;
I’ll always be there for her,
all along life’s rocky road.

Chorus:
Ah how I miss that girl,
ever since she moved away.
Does she ever think me?
I think of her every day!
How can I let her know?
I don’t know where to start…
Where ever she may go,
she’ll always have my heart!
She’ll always have my heart!

Refrain:
Kamikaze ballerina! (4x)

Omar and Kenneth: Thanks guys. Originally recorded this in 2010. Then last year I re-recorded the guitars, enhanced the piano solo, then remixed and remastered it. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hey Mike, what a well performed, mixed and mastered song. Yes, a bit prog-rock in some parts.

Killer track! I *LOVE* the guitar work, especially the tone, and the songwriting is great. The solid vocals push it over the edge, and I love the story behind it. Good stuff, man!

Great one, Mike. Classic rock sound all the way. Love the slow intro and outro sandwiching the hot stuff. Guitar... whoa! Bravo!

Stan: Thanks so much for listening and commenting friend. I wholeheartedly concur with your words re LOVE! Jack: Hey old friend. Thanks for the kind words of support. Don't know if you remember the demo version from MJ. The guitar was very tiny and there was no piano solo. For this posting I redid all the electric guitar work and added the piano soloing. So this is really "Kamikaze Ballerina" 2.0! Glad you enjoyed it bro! 😋

This is very cool! Your vocals remind me of Warren Zevon! It does have a prog slant to it. Very fine!

Thanks Todd, Second time I've gotten the Zevon-vocal comparison. I only know about three of his tunes so it's hard for me to see, but I appreciate the compliment. 😋
