Song information
Here is a song about a lot of things!

I wrote and recorded this back in 2007. I recently tweaked and remixed the old files.

Tom Hellsten of TSTstudios has masterfully remastered it.

Thanks for listening my friends!

Lyrics
PLANET RIDER

I
Way back in 1968 we sent some brave souls to the skies.
T’was the first time the human race,
did see our blue-green world from space.
So many strange emotions stirred inside,
and took center stage.
It felt like comin’ home, or the memory,
from a dim and distant age!

II
We ride roughshod over the land,
and leave destruction in our wake;
oblivious to signs in nature,
that the hour is getting late.
Our concrete tentacles
extend all across the land.
Will we continue on this path
till the whole is desert sand?

Chorus (2X):
When we arrive at last on the other side;
stripped of flesh, bereft of bone,
what will we know then?

III
Since long before records of time
the human race has forged ahead.
Continents sank, ice ages raged;
and still we always rose again.
But will the outcome be the same,
this time my friends?
Or have we tipped the scales of balance,
to far for us to mend?

IV
We wage our wars. We play our games;
as we sleep-walk across life’s stage.
The final act (?) approaching fast;
the curtain soon may fall at last!
Do you ever wonder, planet rider,
if it has to be this way?
We’re only reaping what we’ve sown.
It’s time we changed our ways!

Excellent in every way, Mike. SImple as that. The chorals are chilling and thrilling and fitting. my sincere compliments to Tom on the mixdown. The synth had that 'back to the future' vibe to it.

Thank you Omar.
That line you quoted is borrowed from the old Yardbirds song: "The Shapes Of Things."
I simply couldn't improve on it!

Thanks Joyce.
I actually did the tweak and remix on this, but Tom's mastering gave it that big, full sound.
BTW, you're the second person to hear this song over the years to use the word "chilling."
I remember when I first recorded it I got chills as I was playing the choruses... LOL!
Anyway, glad you like it.

First of all, happy Indigenous Day!
How long have you been singing? You sound like Robbie Robertson! Good job! Maybe even write like him.
I am enjoying this piece...instruments and all! One of your better pieces.

Robbie Robertson? Thank you, but I doubt that! LOL...
Glad you enjoyed this one my friend.

Tom has no equal when it comes to reviving old songs. First time I hear choirs in your song Mike, great choice, maybe with a bit more reverb ? Guitar solo is great as usual. And now, sound effect, a passing plane. Great message if your lyrics Mike.

I'm rather proud of this one Matt. I guess it helps to write about matters one is passionate about.
Glad you enjoyed it my friend!

Thierry, I have one more song coming up in the near future with choir, but it's another oldie that I really don't want to remix again. But I like your idea of more reverb on the choir stems. When I write a newbie that needs choir I will apply your suggestion! Thanks for the tip bro!

Hey Mike ! Another great one ! Love the guitar work in the middle. Sixteen years later and we're still stumbling down that spiral staircase. MMMM ?  I'm trying to imangine how to accomplish anything with concrete tentacles...wow !  I'm guessing it was due to "phraseology," that you used 1968 instead of 1964.  A term Jody used to use often...lol

Your songs are edifying, actually have something to say yet still entertain. Can’t ask for more than that. A good listen Mike.

"feet went crazy"? Perhaps I should post a warning on this one:
"May cause gyrations and/or contortions!" Lol...
Seriously though, thanks for listening my friend. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hey Don, I used 1968 because that was the year that the famous picture of the whole terrestrial orb was taken from space.
Thanks for the thumbs up on the lead soloing bro!

Truth to tell, if I turn off all the instruments and listen to my vocal "naked," I'm constantly singing both sharp and flat. This was one of the two most difficult vocal melodies I've ever attempted. It took several tries to get it even close to right. (That's what I get for refusing to use pitch correction.)
Anyway, I'm glad you got around to hearing this one. It's a personal fave of mine.
