Song information
Named after and about the writer from the 1870's to 1910's. I had just an anthology of his stuff, and this came to mind. This is a rough mix straight off the press. I had thought of giving it simple folksy Cat Stevens style arrangement initially, but I'm contemplating putting in maybe a keyboard string arrangement or something along those lines. I'd welcome any ideas regarding that.

Lyrics
When the world still gets you down
Plenty of places to fly around
In the 19th century
Plenty of things to do and see

In 1892
Henry James still writes for you
In sentences that meander on
And words that trip you up, but you still get the point

FIRST CHORUS:
Cause the ghosts hang in Bly, it's true
The Monarchs want to pose for you
And Henry James still writes in his flat
Telling you not to waste your time
And Daisy Miller is still a catch
Brooksmith wants to be your match
And Henry James still writes in his flat
Telling you not to waste your time
But I wanna go back, yes I wanna go back

I wanna go back to my old house today
When the owners have gone away
Just like Spencer in New York City
Walk around in the dark, it's pretty

Through hallway, room, and shelf
See if I find my other self
And if I find my old demons
Will I conquer them or will they strike me down

Just like The Turn Of The Screw
You never know if it's really true
Henry James still writes in his flat
Telling you not to waste your life
A piece of wisdom for the age
Find it turning back a page
Henry James still writes in his flat
Telling you not to waste your time
But I wanna go back, yes I wanna go back

REPEAT FIRST CHORUS:

I like this song. Good job.Since you asked, I think the instruments you have are enough, but I could imagine a little bit of solo cello in a bridge and/or supporting the bass if you want some string sound.I experimented with the file, and I think the lyrics are stronger (more impactful) when slowed by about 10% and down a half step.

Lovely piano Mark and song
I do agree with David
Is sounding great as it is maybe he is right on slowing down a bit the lyrics
I would maybe add another harmonizing vocal layer

Nice work! I can hear a definite Cat Stevens influence. Agree with comments above, slowing this a tad will make this amazing!

What a cool theme for a song! (I LOVE literate songwriting!)
Very nice arrangement. Piano ever-so-slightly reminiscent of "Morning Is Broken" (CS).
Well done!
