I was checking out iComps on the Wayback Machine. It looks like they had something called "Premium Services". I guess you'd pay a membership fee, and in return, you got:
No ads
Ability to podcast
Ability to promote your album
On that last point, I don't know whether anyone could create an album, but only premium members could promote theirs, or whether only premium members could even create an album.
Not that we have to copy everything exactly, but it would be interesting to know how iComps worked.

The concept of a member's fee and with that fee come extra features, is a great marketing strategy and one that a lot of people have no issues with tapping into... it would be beneficial to both the website and the member to give this concept a larger time of thought and think it really through.. and compare it with what other music websites offer.

-Bulk upload of songs?
-{Free} spotlight feature for one week?

-interview possibilities for any kind of podcast produced by iBandstand or related brands?
-have a sneak peak at previews of certain events?
-determine the word for iBandstands word of the week game?
-options to become a jury on contests organised by iBandstand.
-etc... what ever you can think of... (please add... )
So many extra features can be thought of for a relative small monthly fee and I'm pretty sure many would tap into it.. as I said earlier.

I agree, iBandstand doesn't have to everything icomps was.
I don't remember exactly what was offered with the premium feature, but I sure appreciated the add free option.
Maybe OB remembers how icomps worked with premium?
I think that some things might just happen organically as the site gets members and things have a chance to level out.
