Free maximizer plugin (make your mix louder)

29-Aug-2023 | 11:08 PM
In Garageband, you could put this plugin in your stereo out to make sure your volume is loud enough without going over.

I haven't tried it yet, but perhaps someone can give it a go and tell us whether it does a good job.

You can find the plugin here:

If I weren't busy with building the site, I'd check it out. Might be worth doing an article on it.

Use LoudMax all the time on bus channels. Works on all DAWs and LinuxOS. Not really suitable on the mastering bus.

Just curious: why is it not suitable for the mixing/mastering bus? What do you use instead?

It's a "Soft Limiter". A hard limiter has a fast attack time and a fast release time, whereas; A soft limiter has a (relatively speaking) slower attack time, and much slower or longer release time. So for a mastering bus it can't catch all the peaks, I did my last album using Logic's Limiter as the last plugin on the master bus, it has a option for release time, and a few other options LoudMax doesn't included. But for channel limiting I mostly use LoudMax, quick, easy, and visually easy to understand what's happening. I use BrainWorx bx_XL V2 Mastering limiter by Plugin Alliance, but also Waves "L2 Limiter" (brick wall), and Mastering The Mix "LIMITER". Hope this helps...
