Song information
This is the third tune from my 2025 RPM Challenge.

With my formative years being spent in the 70s and 80s, I, like so many of us, was completely convinced that every morning I was gong to wake up and face a wasteland of nuclear destruction - courtesy of our bestest buddies in the whole wide world, Russia. And as if that wasn't enough, in 1983 we here in the U.S. were regaled with the epic TV movie event The Day After - a dramatic and graphic (for the times) depiction of such a war and its aftermath. And, of course, watching it as a teenager didn't mess me up at all...

And people wonder we of Generation X are the way we are.

So this is about all of that. And the fallout I, and a lot of others, are still dealing with. Come to think of it, radiation might have been easier...

Lyrics
Now I lay me down to sleep
so scared I’ll die before I wake
swept away by the arrogance
of those who don’t give and only take

Atomic dreams haunt my nights
then fade away on my TV screen
when the bombs fall will I know
will I even have time to scream

Ashes, ashes fall on me
my face of fear and ecstasy
melts away in the nuclear rain
as I face the fallout again and again

Ashes, ashes fall on me
my face of fear and ecstasy
melts away in the nuclear rain
as I face the fallout and face my pain

Ashes, ashes fall on me
my face of fear and ecstasy
melts away in the nuclear rain
as I face the fallout again and again

Ashes, ashes fall on me
my face of fear and ecstasy
melts away in the nuclear rain
as I face the fallout and face my pain

Tell me stories, tell me lies
of that shining city on the hill
fueled by greed and prejudice
and hunger for power that will never be killed

Ashes, ashes fall on me
my face of fear and ecstasy
melts away in the nuclear rain
as I face the fallout again and again

Ashes, ashes fall on me
my face of fear and ecstasy
melts away in the nuclear rain
as I face the fallout and face my pain

I remember that time AND the movie "The Day After." That film scared the cr*p outta me.
I'm glad Trump is no war hawk...
