MacJams Playlist from Days of Old

25-Jul-2024 | 9:55 PM
I spent a good bit of the weekend doing yard work and pulled up a couple of playlists I'd made from the early days of the late, great MacJams. Back in the days when you did such things, I'd burn CDs of some of my favorite tunes from the site and distribute to interested friends.

There are a lot of "where are they now?" names on the list. Some who, sadly, are gone now. And a few who are kicking around iBandstand (I wish there were more.) And there may be a few songs that were actually from similar sites, like MacIdol (anyone remember that one?), but I just don't remember any more. Sadly, I've forgotten the actual names of some of the artists, but I've put them in along with the handles where I remember, or at least think I remember. Maybe some of you folks can help me fill those in.

Hopefully some of these will spark some Memory Lane strolling. I wish I could actually share the playlists form Apple Music. If I can, someone tell me how and I will. And if you have your own similar playlists from days gone by, let me know. And I'd be happy to share the files if anyone wants them.

If anyone has any updates on any of these folks, has their own playlists from the past from MJ or any of the other sites of old, share them. I'd love to see what songs and artists other people are still listening to from the misty, ancient past (of a decade or so ago).

Ha! I guess I sucked back then! Lol... (I was known as Amagi, Karmic Whale, Calchas, and even Micheal Wark...)
Sure recognize a LOT of names. I was a big fan of Rebsie, Mystified, Allen Dean, Vic Holman, Neil Porter, Michael2, Egobandit, Paddler, Dick Langford, Echoroom, Leon, Andy Wigzell and Allanah.
Still in regular contact with Vic Holman. Micheal2 is sadly no longer with us...
Great list Joseph!

Definitely remember Tom! Lots of great songs and another good ole Southern boy.
I didn't realize you were Calchas and Amagi (or forgot that I did. I have a tough time keeping names and handles connected).
I wish I was better at keeping up with people. I miss a lot of those folks. Actually met a ton of MJ folks over the years - the Texas crew (had a BLAST in Dallas with a bunch of them), a few folks around Chicago. And Mikki Nylund and I still keep in touch from time to time.
BTW, you can use the Wayback Machine at the Internet Archive and still access saves of the old MJ site. I don't think you can play tunes on the page, but I have been able to download. Just put MacJams.com into the search window. There are hundreds of saves over the life of the site. It takes a little work to get to a specific artist or song, but it's been nice to go back and pick up a few things I've lost or didn't download.

Hey @OGraciousLight
Yeah, as I remember it, MJ and iComp kind of both went out around the same time - 2018-2019ish. I posted on iComp over the years, but mostly used MJ. Been kind of drifting from site to site since. Good to have a place where refugees from all those different sites can come together.
